Chief Executive Endorses Bill to Release Additional Epstein Documents Following Months of Opposition

Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he had endorsed the measure resoundingly approved by Congress members that mandates the federal justice agency to disclose more files related to the deceased financier, the deceased child sexual abuser.

The move arrives after months of opposition from the chief executive and his political allies in the House and Senate that divided his Maga base and created rifts with some of his longtime supporters.

Trump had resisted disclosing the related records, labeling the situation a "fabrication" and condemning those who wanted to make the documents public, even though vowing their disclosure on the political campaign.

Nevertheless he changed direction in the past few days after it became apparent the House of Representatives would endorse the legislation. The president commented: "We have nothing to hide".

It's not clear what the department will disclose in response to the bill – the legislation outlines a variety of possible documents that should be made public, but provides exceptions for certain documents.

The President Endorses Legislation to Compel Publication of Further Epstein Records

The legislation mandates the attorney general to make public related files open for review "in an easily accessible digital format", including all investigations into Epstein, his associate Maxwell, flight logs and movement logs, individuals mentioned or identified in association with his illegal activities, organizations that were connected with his exploitation or money operations, immunity deals and additional legal settlements, internal communications about charging decisions, records of his imprisonment and demise, and information about any file deletions.

The agency will have thirty days to turn over the files. The legislation contains certain exemptions, including redactions of personal details of victims or private records, any descriptions of child sexual abuse, disclosures that would jeopardize active investigations or court proceedings and representations of demise or abuse.
