Despite entering their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Missing star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a comfortable result that all but guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure straight passage to the last 16, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This occasion offered a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in match.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season were no match against a mostly rotated Palace lineup. The visitors were further depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
