Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
