Combatants chuckle as they ride on the back of a transport truck, speeding by a series of multiple dead bodies and driving facing the setting Sudan's sunset.

"See all this work. See this instance of mass destruction," a fighter cheers.

The fighter smiles as he turns the video equipment on his own face and his associate militiamen, their Rapid Support Forces identification clearly shown: "They shall all be killed in this manner."

These individuals are exulting in a massacre that humanitarian officials believe killed in excess of thousands of civilians in the African city of al-Fashir in recent weeks.

A Community Cut Off from the World

After maintaining the community under blockade for approximately an extended period, from late summer the militia proceeded to strengthen its control and prevent access for the surviving residents.

Space-based imagery reveal that fighters commenced to build a massive earth barrier - a built-up sand barrier - encircling the perimeter of the city, blocking entry points and halting aid.
