Severe Rains Exacerbate Situation for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza, Agencies Alert

Heavy storms over the past week have worsened the already dire circumstances of the hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the region, as reported by humanitarian organizations.

"Horrendous" Conditions Brings Severe Dangers

A representative detailed the recent storm as "awful", with rain so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"Last night was really horrendous for the families. The downpours were so intense... And the gusts were so forceful," noted the official.

Authorities voice significant concern that young ones sheltering in tents in damp attire will succumb to hypothermia and other ailments.

Casualties and Widespread Damage

Health authorities have reported that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have died in building collapses triggered by the harsh conditions.

Further statements suggest a higher number of casualties. Officials stated that multiple structures had totally fallen and many others had been partly destroyed.

Aid Distribution Deemed Inadequate

Agencies have stepped up shipments of tarpaulins, bedding and garments following the halt in hostilities started, but they emphasize there is remains not enough aid getting in.

"We are working relentlessly to provide that relief and to distribute it, but the size of the needs is so enormous that we continue to see thousands of families and minors who are truly enduring hardship nightly," stated one representative.

Long-Term Concerns and Agreement Provisions

The subsequent part of the ceasefire includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of troops, and other conditions.

Humanitarian bodies have stressed the need for "increased and sustained relief to respond to immediate and long-term requirements."

The hostilities was triggered by an attack in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent military operations have resulted in a high number of casualties in the territory, based on health ministry data.
