The Merseyside club Will Not Change Attacking Style In the Face of Recent Slump, Says Slot
Liverpool's head coach has stated that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the recent downturn and he refuses to compromise their offensive approach in search of a solution. The manager acknowledged that six defeats in seven games was not good enough ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Increasing Scrutiny Amid Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his altered lineup exited the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of almost £450m.
"Our views align," remarked the manager, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the continental tournament and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.
Player Depth Stays Unquestioned
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and all ready for the programme we are facing". He noted that the recent signings in players such as the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is probably unavailable again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the years to come".
Gelling Difficulties
When questioned about why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'What are the reasons?' I give an explanation and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with multiple factors why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a performance streak as we had now."
- Even if I could identify multiple factors
- Leading this club you should not suffer defeats
- Unfortunately six losses from seven matches
Backline Performance
Only Burnley (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The league leaders, the Gunners, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after 10 games without a shutout.
"I don't see us giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to alter our approach entirely but we have to enhance in keeping clean sheets," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we hardly conceded a effort at our net. In every match we have competed in we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Absolutely not. We do allow a bit more than last season but that stems from us being behind early so you become more adventurous. But overall I don't think that our problem is that we concede too many chances. Our problem is we are unable to finish the opportunities we generate."
