The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing students that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
