The loved ones of teens lost after a tragic fire at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for clues about their loved ones via social media.

The blaze devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Circulated images reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have warned that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson noted on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process continuing to locate the final individuals.

In the waiting period, loved ones have been taking to social media to plead for clues about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.
