The loved ones of teens lost after a tragic fire at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for clues about their loved ones via social media.

The blaze devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Circulated images reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have warned that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson noted on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process continuing to locate the final individuals.

In the waiting period, loved ones have been taking to social media to plead for clues about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.

Appeals for the Missing

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.

"Someone with him told me they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.

One of his teachers commented, "I've always been struck by his good nature and smile, coupled with great responsibility. Often offer to help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.

Her sibling has shared an appeal online, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.

Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
